The Swanson - Perry Georgia

Cheese Biscuits, Old Fashioned Hamburger, Swanson House Salad

We hadn't been to The Swanson in a couple of years. By couple of years, I mean over four. Not that we didn't want to visit. We just didn't hadn't taken the time. We hope that doesn't happen again. It's too good of a restaurant to not experience regularly.

We got there on a Thursday a little after noon.

The wait was less than five minutes. Once seated we were welcomed by our server Savannah. Who is, just so you know… awesome. Savannah got our water while we looked over the menu. She also brought us a plate of their signature Cheese Biscuits.

How Was The Reception?

Everything looked great and the biscuits were warm and wonderful. We finished them off pretty quickly. Savannah asked if we wanted another round. Of course we accepted her offer. By the time she got back we had decided.

Cheryl's Order

Cheryl ordered the Swanson House Salad for $8.49 It's a fresh spring mix, feta cheese, Georgia pecans, bacon, and feta cheese salad, with champagne vinaigrette dressing. Cheryl opted for the ranch dressing instead. It was nice to have that option.

Stan's Order

I ordered the Old Fashion Cheeseburger for $8.99. It's a half-pound patty served on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, red onion, Swanson candied dill pickles, mustard and mayo. I made zero changes on ingredients. I'm glad I didn't. I've listed the optional sides below. I chose the small garden salad.

Both were excellent decisions. Everything was fresh and very well seasoned.

The Swanson House Salad

The first thing I noticed about the Swanson House Salad was the sliced pears. They looked fantastic. For a minute or so I thought I should have ordered it too. I could tell Cheryl was happy with her decision, by her smile. The crunchiness of the fresh greens was incredible. The sweetness of the pecans was perfect. And the salty, tangy crumbly consistency of the feta cheese was perfect. There really isn't any way to make this salad any better. It's one of the best in the area.

The Old Fashioned Cheeseburger

Honestly, looking at the Old Fashioned Cheeseburger, sitting alone on the plate, was a little deceiving. Not that it didn't LOOK delicious. It just looked a bit 'smallish' on the plate. Closer scrutiny proved me wrong. I think the size of the plate is so that you can cut it, and have enough room for it. It's big. A half pound of beef with plenty of 'fixins'. Although the onion, tomato, cheese and lettuce were excellent, the thing that sets this burger off is the Swanson candied dill pickles. Honestly, I couldn't tell you if they were sweet or dill. All I know is that the combination of flavors was fantastic. Order this burger if you're hungry or want to take some home. It really is bigger than it looks. It'll be hard not to order it our next trip.

Oh, and the small garden salad was very good too. Everything was fresh. The tomatoes especially tasted better than most restaurant variety.

What's The Recommendation?

All in all, this was an excellent trip. I'd recommend it to anyone. If you're passing through Perry, it's worth the stop. You'll know that by the number of locals that are there.

Peace, Love and Understanding.
We'll see you down the road.
